Columbia - Sandal with woollen upper
and embossed leather sole
Above sandals are traditionally worn by the women of the dry
Guajira peninsula in the most northern part of Columbia. They
are formed by braided woollen cords fixed to a leather sole with
three holes in it. The upper cords are decorated with a woollen
pom-pom, which varies in size in accordance with the social standing
of the wearer. The loops holding the woollen cords are braided
either of wool too or of pita-grass fibre and are knotted together
underneath the thick one-layer sole through the mentioned holes.
