Peru - All leather platform sandal
with silver buckle
This festive dress-up colourful and decorative platform sandal
originates from the Tarabuco region of Bolivia. However, in the
early twentieth century this style became popular among the Alti
Plano highland inhabitants on both sides of Lake Titicaca. Its
exuberant and eclectic style embodies a rich blend of South American
and European cultures. The sole and heel are built up of several
layers of leather. The bottom part of the sole is shaped like
a horseshoe. Pieces of leather holding the upper straps are fixed
into slits all the way through the leather layers of the sole.
A hand-carved and engraved sterling silver buckle serves as fastener.
