The type of ladies’ traditional dress shoes shown here can be found from the Alps regions in the south up to Sweden in the north. The upper is made of thick dark-brown leather with tooled decorations. The heel-quarter runs all the way up to the instep and ends in small strips of leather with an eyelet. A leather lace decorated with small woollen pom-poms at the ends is used for closure and covered by a tooled tongue. The upper is hand-stitched to a thick multi-layered leather sole. A multi-layered leather heel is placed in the centre of the sole, providing the wearer with an incredibly flexible unrolling of the foot while walking. However it also lessens the grip of the sole on the surface. This is compensated by heavy hob-nails on the heel-piece and along the toe-part of the sole.
