| Uzbekistan - All leather ladies'
boot with overshoe The boot shown here originates from
a south-eastern Uzbek tribe. It appears to be a boot, but in fact
consists of two parts fitting together.
A leather boot stocking called "magshi" fits into an
all leather overshoe called "galosh". Both are richly
wool-thread embroidered in different colours.
This combination of magshi and galosh is worn all over Central
Asia and certainly in all countries of which the name ends in
"stan".
Only the boot-stockings are worn inside premises. The shoes are
taken off or put on when entering or leaving, thus avoiding bringing
street-dirt inside. |
