United Kingdom - Women's clog
with silver ornamented leather upper - Late 19th Century
This type of clog originates in the regions of Lancashire and Doncashire
in the United Kingdom, were it was the common footwear for the working
class in the coalmines and textile mills. During the 19th and early
20th Century they wer worn by men, women and children alike. The
clog above has an erect phallus with pubic hari carved into its
wooden sole. The design was probably made upon special request and
used by a prostitute or the madam of a whorehouse in the region,
as part of a provocative dress to attract and ertertain customers. |
