France - Andre Perugia - Design 'Flower Basket' summer 1960

Andre Perugia was born in Nice-France in 1893. He trained in his father's workshop and in 1909, at the age of 16, he opened his own shop in Paris where he sold handmade shoes. He designed shoes for Paul Poiret, Israel Miller, Charles Jourdan, Jaques Fath, Givency, H&M Rayne and Schiaparelli. Among his clients were Josephine Baker, Mistinguett, Gloria Swanson and Queen Elisabeth of England. Perugia was the first to experiment with a heelless heel in 1937. He continued to design and supply his wonderful shoes throughout the 40', 50's and 60's. He retired in 1970 and died in November 1977 at the age of 84 in Cannes.
