Spain - Manolo Blahnik - Multicolour looped design - summer 2005

Manolo Blahnik was born on 27th November 1942 in Santa Cruz de la Palma - Canary Islands-Spain. His Spanish mother and Czech father were both Anglophiles and his upbringing had a remarkably Anglo-Saxon flavour to it which was of crucial importance to his future points of reference. He studied Law and Literature at the University of Geneva and in 1968 Art at the Ecole du Louvre in Paris, working as a boutique assistant in his spare time. In 1970 he moved to London and began to design shoes in a tiny shop and in 1973 he opened his first boutique there. He designed collections for Perry Ellis, Calvin Klein, Jean Muir, Zandra Rhodes, Yves Saint Laurent, Rifat Ozbek, Elio Fiorucci and many others. Most of the world's rich and influential women have a collection of Blahnik shoes.
